Southampton Young People’s Service

16 MAY 2016

Southampton Young People’s Service 16/17yrs and Care Leavers / Emergency Service

The Emergency Service provides accommodation with support for 16 and 17 year olds and care leavers.    Clients may stay for up to 2 years at the service, 4 beds are allocated for emergency housing; young people are housed from 1 day to 6 weeks, the resident may move into other accommodation within the service, or into accommodation through a partner agency.

Chapter 1 staff have a “hands on approach” within the service which is reflected in the young people support plan; these often reflect, cooking, cleaning, budgeting and healthy living skills.

The local Tesco store sponsored cooking sessions at the emergency unit, providing an opportunity for the young people to experience build skills in cooking, cleaning, budgeting and healthy living.  This has been achieved by Tesco providing ingredients up to the value of £20:00 per week.  Unfortunately this funding sauce has been exhausted.

Tesco hope to continue supporting Chapter 1, to support the young people and offered the opportunity to raise funds at 1 of their sites.  A cake sale on Saturday 21stMay 2016 was agreed. Chapter1 Staff/young people and Tesco staff have  promised to bake cakes to be sold on the day.

Any funds raised from the cake sale will be used to continue the cooking sessions with Chapter 1 residents.
