Local Area and Universities

Perfect for Study

Xenia is close to many Universities within central London and is a great base for any student thinking of coming to study here.  Universities near Xenia’s accommodation include:

  • Kings College London - Stamford Street Campus/Strand Campus
  • London School of Economics - Aldwych
  • London Southbank University - Elephant and Castle
  • University College London
  • London Metropolitan University
  • London College of Communication
  • Close to Guys and St Thomas’s Hospitals

The local area is made up of many boroughs each one with its own character and offering a world of delights.

Built up around the railway station, this area has retained a strong sense of community. One of the prime forces battling for the community is the Waterloo Action Centre in Baylis road, catering for a range of needs and interests.
The Waterloo Gallery also occupies the building...
The St Johns church is a key player in the area, both as a centre of worship and a venue for concerts, recitals and exhibitions. Southbank Mosaics is based here, and nearby is the new 1901 Arts Club, a private members' club for performing artists.

Bankside is perhaps the part of SE1 with the highest profile, largely thanks to the arrival in 2000 of Tate Modern in the former Bankside Power Station. A visit to the full-size replica of Shakespeare's Globe is just yards from its original site and is also a leading attraction in the area. An ideal complement to the Globe is the RoseTheater Exhibition, a chance to explore the history of Bankside in an audio-visual presentation on the site of the remains of the first Bankside playhouse.

 Borough Market

Borough Market is one of London's oldest wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, established by Act of Parliament in 1756 and administered by 21 trustees who live in the local community. It covers an area of 4.5 acres.
