BOARD-Commissioner-John-Matear-Chair (002).jpgI am a retired Salvation Army Officer having served for 34 years, the final appointment being as Territorial Commander in the United Kingdom Territory with the Republic of Ireland. I was appointed Chair of Saha in September 2012.

I also assist my wife, who is the Corps Officer at The Salvation Army Nottingham William Booth Memorial Halls Corps. I am responsible for chairing the Board and, with others, ensuring effective governance in pursuit of achieving Saha’s corporate plan. As well as working closely with the Board, the Executive Management Team and The Salvation Army, I am enjoying getting around the country and meeting with front line staff and also those we seek to serve. I have been greatly impressed with staff, the range of work and their professionalism.

I have also been challenged and humbled as I have had the privilege to meet with our clients – young and old alike. When I am not working, I enjoy most sports and in particular football – as a long-standing Leeds United supporter I have been suffering for too long!
